Monument to the world champions and Centenario Stadium.
This memorial was created to honor the champions of the World Cup 1950. Uruguay achieved victory playing against Brazil, that victory is known as "maracanazo".
In the picture, the bottom is the Centenario stadium, which was home to the 1930 World Cup and some other international tournaments. In 1983 it was declared a historical monument of world football by FIFA. It is one of the largest stadiums in America and can host the 2030 soccer World Cup.
In this park are the Centenario stadium, athletics track, the Velodrome Municipal playgrounds and two smaller stadiums. It is a very extensive and beautiful park, ideal for walking and exercise, it also has many monuments throughout the run of the green space, including the Carreta monument.
The Carreta monument is created in bronze and pink granite. Remember the classic cargo transportation, a monument visited by tourists. The creator of this memorial (José Belloni) won a gold medal at an international level and received rave reviews from Italy.
My paisito!
Small Earth; big your people.
Place for blessed God,
adoration of the life; of my resident heart.
With a warm mate
I write to my paisito,
enjoying the clean environment
Of my nice Uruguay.
My gaucho's paisito,
place of Indians charruas.
The pride for many
in the defense of the lands.
My paisito!
Small Earth; big your people.
Place for blessed God,
adoration of the life; of my resident heart.
Blessed God for sending myself to the world
and to place in this sacred land.
Earth in which it is lived dancing
to the pace of the candombe or sung lees.
My paisito, where the tango is born,
pace that comes out and breaks borders.
Tango, the melody for of dicar to a cleared love;
they are that the Uruguayan goes in the arteries.
My paisito!
Small Earth; big your people.
Place for blessed God,
adoration of the life; of my resident heart.
